Accreditations

BC CAHS follows the principles, practices and guidelines of internationally-recognized quality assurance standards as described by ISO/IEC 17025-2017, Good Laboratory Practices (GLP) and World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE). BC CAHS has undergone internal and external audits by consultants and qualified industry auditors. We maintain rigorous control and documentation systems that ensure accuracy in recording and reporting. Our equipment is maintained to manufacturer’s specification by third-party, manufacturer-certified specialists. Proficiency is maintained by lab bench validation with national and international government laboratories and accredited partners. Intake and sample management is through a Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) that is world-recognized as the industry standard. We employ a Lab Manager to act as internal quality manager and review all data output and reporting; all results pass through three levels of review before reporting. Our document control systems satisfy industry standards and are third-party audited.

We are currently undergoing preparations for an ISO/IEC 17025-2017 accreditation application to become a lab that is on the same playing field as the Province of BC, DFO and CFIA. We will be the only accredited private fish health lab in BC. Our expected date to become accredited is the Spring/Summer of 2019.

As a certified Biosafety Level 2 facility, BC CAHS employs a full time Biosafety Officer and maintains strict biosecurity within the laboratory.
