ELISA – Renibacterium salmoninarum

High through-put analysis of kidney samples for the detection of Renibacterium salmoninarum, the causative agent of Bacterial Kidney Disease (BKD), is performed by an Enzyme Linked Immunosorbance Assay (ELISA). The ELISA used at BC CAHS is designed to be highly sensitive for R. salmoninarum and to reduce the occurrence of false negative results. The ELISA can be used to detect and monitor for the presence of R. salmoninarum in all types of salmon.

ELISA – Cortisol

The ELISA uses antibodies to detect and quantify cortisol antigen levels in samples.  Cortisol is a corticosteroid hormone involved in the response to stress.

Information about fish stress at the time of sampling can be inferred from measuring cortisol levels.
